This dental office occupies the top floor of a landmark hi-rise building in New York’s financial district, originally used as the captain’s lounge of the Munson Shipping company.

Linking the notion of wellness and dental health, we envisioned a comforting and relaxing environment that would alleviate the fear and anxiety typically associated with a dentist visit. Advances in digital imaging and dental equipment have made it possible to reduce or eliminate the visible mechanical aspects of dental treatment.

Special attention was paid to the design of the ceiling and the lighting, taking into consideration that patients primarily see this surface during treatment. The ceiling height was elevated to 13′-0″, to create rooms of Classical proportions and suspended grid ceilings were reduced to a minimum. A system of hidden light coves generates a gallery-like atmosphere, enhanced by the abundance of natural light and city views.
